a crystal that changes colour when rain is approaching?
When i was about 2 years old, my grandmother gave me this rock/cystal carved into the shape of a dog. It was a crystal that changes colour when rain is approaching. It was pink, but when the rain was comming, usually a day before, it changed to a dark purple. I loved it so much, I broke it in two to look at what was inside. I was trying to see what made it work. It was white/pink inside, but it was a solid rock or crystal. Does anyone know what that was or have had one of these?
Perhaps Cobalt (II) Chloride (CoCl2), although its color behavior is the reverse of your description. On dry, low humidity days, it is blue; on wet, humid days, it is dark red.

Thunder eggs, or Geode, are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and volcanic rocks some. They look like stone regularly outside, the exterior typically composed of limestone, but have crystal formations of quartz on the inside. They are called Thunder eggs by treasure hunters because they do not resemble very large eggs because of their smooth exterior and round shape. If you are interested any kind of treasure hunting you may want to start with these thunder eggs, or Geode.
The real value of the Geode is their appearance when they are halved and polished. Their crystal formations typically comes in different colors to Deep Purple-pink, blue, and even a silvery crystal color. Formations the rock itself leave a wavy shape in the color and crystals on the issue in a fiery glow. Some thunder eggs that have been found are so large that they has been made in furniture such as coffee or side table. Adding a base and a glass top makes the rock a very interesting piece of sturdy furniture.
It is often hard to say what will be Within these Geode until you actually split open, and they generally have to be adjusted to make them serve their full potential when it comes to gloss and shine.
If you are interested in finding some Geode you need to know where to look or them. Chances are, you will not find in your garden, unless you live in Utah or Mexico. Another area where Thunder Eggs have been found is Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Geode State Park in Henry County, Iowa. Iowa Geode designated as the official rock of the state in 1967.
Rock Hound State Park in Deming, New Mexico is open to the public fools rock of all ages. He is known for its wide variety of mineral specimens due to ancient volcanic activity in the region. Geode can be found littering the valley floor. Look for round or oval stone with a lumpy surface similar to resemble a cauliflower. Use your rock hammer and break the rock. There is no easy way to determine what you have until you break the rock open. Thunder Eggs are also found in rocks in the desert walls. Beware of snakes and scorpions from entering all the rocks.
According to Wikipedia, a great Geode on size of a minivan was discovered in Ohio in early 1900 in an area now known as Crystal Cave. You can actually take tours of this area during the summer. Despite the rings chances are you will find no Geode as large as your vehicle, it is a fact, they are obviously there, and can be very valuable.
When you are searching for thunder eggs it's best to have with you a reliable guide to map areas of the dessert or certain cave formations where you can find. It is also important that you are very aware of your personal safety and never go spelunking or exploring in the wilderness, alone and without proper precautions. There is no Geode that you may experience that is worth your life and safety.
