how would I find a antiuqe jeweler to know about freshwater pearls?
Try your local phone book under Antiques, so call around. The best way to find out whether they are true or false, is to take them to a Pawn Shop, ask them about the value. Normally, real pearls will be either 14K to 18 K gold closures, some have even 925 pounds or marks on them. Real pearls will feel rough against your teeth when you push them across your teeth (assuming, of course, that you can not bear dentures.) There are some very good fakes out there of animal ranges. The price will depend on the size, shape and colors of beads, whether they are natural; bleached or dyed. Not all freshwater pearls are expensive. Some of the rarest of pearls comes from the mighty, muddy Mississippi River. I would rather have a nice antique set of saltwater pearls from the islands.
